The Iron Law of Oligarchy

Some social scientists have said that there is an Iron Law of Oligarchy, meaning any group of people large enough to be organized will have a core of members who run it, no matter what type of group it may be. This applies to monarchy, democracy, dictatorships, and anything else.

My experience over the past 5 decades supports this Law as all-but unbreakable. Logic would suggest that anarchy (a society without rulers) fails because it ignores this Law.

To the extent that the people pick their own oligarchs and the oligarchs are open to admitting new members or to being retired by the vote of the people, there is freedom. To the extent that plutocrats (currently called the 1% here in the USA) pick the oligarchs or corrupt them to purposes other than the mission of the group or the health of the group’s members, freedom is withered, an illusion at best. To the extent that the oligarchs use armed forces (military, police, private security companies) to maintain their control, freedom is dead.

America is NOT a free country. It has not been one for many years. The plutocrats, the military-industrial complex, and the financial sector, along with their sock puppets in the media & the extremes of right and left, have taken over. The oligarchs work for them, not for the people.

Unless enough of the people wake up to these facts, things will only get worse.

Who occupies the White House or Congress or the Statehouses matters very little if the people are not paying attention to what they are doing on behalf of their overlords.

WAKE UP, America !
