How to Respond to Comments on Facebook
This is from author CJ Cherryh and it’s brilliantly simple.
The uncommon art of common courtesy.
If you didn’t get the response you wanted, say, “Thank you.”
If you do get the response you want, say, “Thank you. That’s what I thought.”
If you get a bozo who obviously is off his meds and has become passionately inflamed, say “Thank you for your opinion,” and quietly unfriend and block the nutjob. He’ll be happier not being argued at with facts.
If you get somebody trying to convert you to something, say, “I shall research that. Thank you.”
‘Thank you’ covers so many situations.
It is not necessary to continue an argument and certainly not necessary to internalize all the input to your post.
Some people are just having a day worse than yours. Don’t try to top their misery. “I’m sorry. I hope it improves,” doesn’t cost too many electrons.
