My first in-person interview of Job Search 2018 took place this morning. It’s been over 16 years since I last interviewed for a job. Because this interview happened sooner than I expected, I did no research on today’s interview techniques. Yes, I was surprised by how it went.
They asked ten questions, all in the style of “Tell me about a time that you…” and took copious notes. At the end, I asked how I did. They did not answer.
I wish I had made notes on their list of questions so I could prepare better answers for the next interview. It’s definitely time to read up on interviewing to be ready for the next one.
They have more applicants to interview and will decide next week, then let me know.
I recall that my late wife interviewed with 4 different hiring managers before she landed a job there. So, I’m mentally prepared to be patient. “Let reason direct your emotions” and all that. (Which is not to say that emotions are happy about being directed. Passion wants to be in charge. )
This position (and a few others similar to it) came to my attention because of my family members. I basically *had* to apply there first. It would be sweet to get hired there and not have to continue looking — but that may be an unrealistic expectation. This means I need to decide what other positions I’m interested in pursuing. Then to actually pursue them.
That’s going to be an ongoing thing until I land a job — or get too busy with notary work and paid writing gigs to look for a job.
As with notary work, writing gigs, and other matters, I’m not so widely known as awesome at what I do that I can wait for opportunities to come to me. My rest period due to grief is over. I will grieve for a long time, but my cats and I need for me to have an income with benefits.
I shout hope and determination into the multiverse. She shouts back “Show Us!”
